As many of you reading this I have often been faced with minor to epic data losses over the years. Recently i came across a service from www.mozy.com. They offer data backup for what i believe is a pretty great price.
For $4.95 a month you get unlimited data, Yup! Unlimited Data!. They also offer a basic free account which gives 2gb with no strings attached which would be enough for your basic user.
Data backup is an important thing to do. If you are tasked like myself with not only protecting your own data, but your clients data. You know what i’m getting at. Can you imagine what would happen if you lost your files and had to re-create them all one by one? or worse pay for a specialist to lab your hard drive and retrieve your data??
Data failure is not a fantasy that happens to only a select few. If you own any sort of portable storage device then corruption will happen one day, so heed this warning and don’t simply think it will never happen to you. Take the correct steps and create online and offline backups, DVD-R, CDR and or flash drive backups for home and store them in a fire proof apparatus of your choosing and last but not least make a copy of your data and store it online as a final line of defence should all else fail.
All of these things may seem impractical and might stink a little of overkill and for the casual user they will be. But the time it takes to put in these steps will fail into comparsion with the time it will take to recover should your storage solution kick the bucket.
